Shoulder Strap17th century.  Decorative iron shoulder strap for the breastplate.  These straps were sometimes made of leather.  Similar decorative metal straps are shown on the pikeman's suit illustrated in the Jacob de Gheyn engravings published in The Exercise of Armes.  

This example was recovered from Causey's Care, a mid-17th-century site in Charles City County.
