Musket Butt Platethe plate on the butt of a musket or pistol.  In early times in Europe it was always made of metal.  This example is sheet iron or steel. 

It was recovered in many pieces from Jordan's Journey, a 17th-century settlement site in Prince George County near Hopewell.
