Snaphaunce Cockthe small tail at the lower end of this S-shaped gun cockused to catch the nose of the sear and hold  the cocked positionis characteristic of the snaphaunce firing mechanism.  The top jaw is missing on this example. 

Many gun parts in relatively good condition were recovered from this mid-17th-century site, Causey's Care, in Charles City County.
