Armitage Manufacturing Co.,
 Richmond

The Armitage Manufacturing Company building in Richmond dates back to 1900. The complex has been associated with two major industries significant to the industrial history of Richmond: (1) building supplies and roofing paper, and (2) corrugated cardboard container manufacturing.
Armitage began operating here in 1900, then, begining in 1916, the building housed the Fibre Board Container Company until 1956.
The building is a fine example of turn-of-the-20th-century heavy-timber construction and is the earliest known industrial design of the Richmond-based architectural firm of Noland & Baskervill (present day Baskervill & Son).
Situated on Williamsburg Road in Richmond between Rocketts Landing and Shockoe Bottom, the property is on the market (as of July 2012), with the goal of repurposing the complex through historic rehabiliation tax credits for apartments or some other use.
