After the fire of 1897, the manor house was taken down and the usable brick sold or used in the construction of nearby homes. Much of the cellar filled up with brick rubble and organic debris, sealing beneath it the burned wood and other artifacts within the house at the time of its destruction. Much of this material was associated with the last resident of the building, an African-American woman.
