Activity at the Fairfield manor house did not stop with its destruction in 1897. This Confederate memorial marker was placed within the rubble of the ruin in the 1930s by descendants of Emanuel J. Thruston. The family lived nearby at Millwood plantation, which split from Fairfield by the early 19th century.
