Interior Alterations.
The Ellises also remodeled the Central Hall, converting a rectangular
entryway to a grander archway (creating a keystone-capped semi-elliptical arched passage,
flanked by capped pilasters) in keeping with the house's Colonial
Revival makeover. In 1952 Dessie Ellis sold the
property to its last private owner Admiral Richard Blackburn Black, and
many of the house's furnishings conveyed with the deed, as they did again
when the property was sold to Prince William County in 2000. The grandfather clock, organ, piano, music stand, and other items
pictured in the
photo on the right are still positioned in those same locations today.
