Shady Grove School.

Rosenwald schools were required to be sited on at least a two-acre lot, and they all had girls and boys privies, usually in opposite corners of the lot behind the schoolhouse. The privies at Shady Grove are gone, but the manual water pump in front of the school remains. One of the daily tasks given to the male students of the school was to bring fresh water from the pump into the school.

Shady Grove School was listed on the Virginia Landmarks Register and National Register of Historic Places in 2009.  It is currently being restored by a group of dedicated former students, some of whom are shown here.
