The headquarters of the Department of Historic Resources (DHR) maintains the Commonwealth's collection of data on historic structures, historic districts, and archaeological sites. Organized by city and county, this information, contained in 170,000-plus unique files, includes resource evaluation, photographs, maps, and drawings and is available for the public to view free of charge.

The department's research library is the principal repository for Virginia survey and archaeological reports. These resources do not circulate but are available for use by the public in the library.

Learn more about the research potential by visiting the DHR Archives & Library section of this site. For more information please contact Quatro Hubbard, Archivist, Phone: (804) 367-2323 ext.124; Fax: (804) 367-2391.
