Historic Resources Board Member: Carter L. Hudgins

Dr. Carter L. Hudgins is the Hofer Distinguished Professor and Chairperson of the Department of History and American Studies at the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg.  Previously, he served as the Executive of the Historic Charleston Foundation and the Director of Mary Washington's Department of Historic Preservation, as well as faculty at the University of Alabama-Birmingham and Armstrong-Atlantic University in Savannah.  From 1975-1980, he was an archaeologist for the Department of Historic Resources.  Dr. Hudgins has researched and written extensively on colonial Virginia, and is currently working on an archaeological study of Jamestown on Nevis, in the West Indies in cooperation with Mercer University and the University of Southampton (U.K.).  He holds a M.A. from Wake Forest University and a Ph.D. from the College of William and Mary.
