Anti-Suffrage Movement.


Virginia opponents of suffrage, who began their arguments in earnest in 1912 with the formation of the Virginia Association Opposed to Woman Suffrage (VAOWS—notably, a women’s group), also employed various lines of attack. Biological and functional differences between men and women were obvious targets, as demonstrated in this VAOWS flier appealing to men’s and women’s traditional gender sensibilities.
