Unique artifacts recovered from the slave quarter near the manor house speak to the complex history of the plantation. The animal scene on this fragment of Chinese porcelain plate connects the Burwells (and their slaves) with the highest fashion of the early 18th century. The body of a small dog, found in the fill of a slave quarter’s cellar, indicates there were more than just humans were working at Fairfield plantation.
