The early 18th-century clay borrow pit included thousands of wine bottle fragments and over 30 wine bottle seals. Three of the recovered seals symbolize the ownership and management of the plantation over 56 years: Lewis Burwell II (1676-1710), Nathaniel Burwell (1710-1721), and Robert “King” Carter (1721-1732).
