The Gardens at Rippon.
Judge Ellis and his wife Dessie installed extensive gardens at Rippon Lodge.
In their guest books they document the trees, shrubs, and flowers planted,
including numerous boxwoods that totaled well over 200 in 1934 — nearly all
of which remain
on the property today. The county plans to restore the grounds and gardens to the Ellis period.
That work began in the fall of 2010 with the reconstruction of the rose arbor
(bottom right). The arbor leads visitors to a family cemetery
containing the graves of Richard and Thomas Blackburn, among others.
