Shoulder Strap —17th
century. Decorative iron shoulder strap
for the breastplate. These straps were sometimes made of
leather. Similar decorative metal straps are shown on the pikeman’s
suit illustrated in the Jacob de Gheyn engravings published in The
Exercise of Armes.
This example was recovered from Causey’s
Care, a mid-17th-century site in Charles City County.
