DHR staff will be visiting Marion on Wednesday, October 3, beginning at 8:30 a.m., and Bristol on Thursday, October 4, beginning at 1 p.m. to present and discuss DHR programs that support the recognition and preservation of Southwest Virginia’s historic resources. Both events are free, open to the public, and require no pre-registration. Please help us spread the word, and we look forward to seeing you either at the Lincoln Theater in Marion (read the agenda) or at the Bristol Train Station (agenda). On Tuesday, October 2, 5:30 to 7 p.m., DHR will hold a public meeting at the Town Hall in the Town of Appalachia in Wise County todiscuss a proposed Appalachia Commercial Historic District. The first phase of the project, an architectural survey of the proposed district, will begin this fall. The survey is funded through DHR’s Cost Share program, with the aim of developing a formal nomination for listing in the Virginia Landmarks Register and National Register of Historic Place to be presented during the spring of 2019 to the Virginia Board of Historic Resources and the State Review Board.
