Artifacts recovered from a subfloor pit less than 75 feet west of the manor house are similar to
those recovered at other 18th-century slave quarters, such as Utopia
(in James City Co.) and Mt. Vernon’s House for
Families. These and artifacts from two additional subfloor pits are included in the
