Located one mile northwest of the village of Quicksburg in Shenandoah County, the ca. 1815 Wine House is a highly intact example of a 19th century vernacular farmhouse embodying the Germanic building traditions popular in the Shenandoah Valley. The two-story, side-gabled, single-pen log structure sits atop a limestone foundation and retains a great deal of historic fabric, including the original pine floors, single-hung divided-light sash, beaded tongue-and-groove partitions, a corner winder staircase, chair rail, and frame-and-panel wainscotting. The Wine House and its two contributing outbuildings – an early stone springhouse and timber frame smokehouse – occupy the last remaining four acres of a land grant that can be traced to the 18th century.
