Chalcedony, 44WG0267, Washington County, Virginia.
Specimens collected from terrace gravels along shore of South Holston Lake (44WG267) about 2,000 feet west of Washington County Park, Virginia when lake is below full pool.
Chalcedony occurs as spherical balls up to 10 inches in diameter with fractured exterior and clear areas at center.
The chalcedony weathers out of the Ordovician Conococheague Limestone geologic formation.
Artifacts from all time periods and throughout southwest Virginia were made from this material.
