Tasset Lames —early 17th century. These
two lames, strips of sheet metal, were riveted together as part of a tasset
that protected the upper leg. The separate strips were overlapped
and attached in such a way that they would move when the wearer moved.
To work properly they would have to overlap in the upward direction. Both a rivet and two decorative brass rosettes are visible. They
have been conserved in the folded condition in which they were found in the
ground. They appear to have been deliberately folded before being
thrown out.

Journey, a 17th-century site in Prince George County near Hopewell, Virginia.
