The public is welcome to join us on lab nights at the CAPE. Lab activities cater to all ages, ranging from cleaning the artifacts, processing cleaned artifacts, and occasionally mending pottery! These are at the Center of Archaeology, Preservation, and Education (CAPE) in Gloucester, VA.
Come visit the Fairfield Archaeology Park! We will host tours at the structure where you can learn about a colonial site! Occasionally, we will have excavations during these Fridays, but predominantly guided or self-guided tours around the structure and the natural trail.

The public is welcome to join us in our excavations at the historic King William Courthouse, where we uncover the remains of a tavern. These excavations occur every second and fourth Thursday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
We will have our final Homeschool Dig Day in 2025 at Fairfield Archaeology Park! This will occur during one of our Fairfield Fridays and during Virginia’s Archaeology Month! We will conduct our regular archaeological activities and demonstrate the applications of drones in archaeology.
October is Virginia Archaeology Month, and October 18th is International Archaeology Day (IAD)! We’re celebrating by having a public dig next to the Timberneck House in Machicomoco State Park.
